Family Governance and Board Development

Elizabeth is the former Director General of the Institute for Family Business (IFB) in the UK, a membership organisation she was proud to serve for 12 years. The organisation creates unique learning and networking opportunities for its members, works with academic and adviser partners, facilitates connections between families and importantly represents the sector in Government.

She was a member of the Government appointed coalition that developed the Wates Principles for Corporate Governance for Large Private Companies in 2018 and is the author of the Non-Executive Directors in Family Business Guide. Published by the IFB 2021.

Her passion for family business led her to establish Avanti Family Business Advisory in September 2021 to support individual family businesses on their journey towards more harmonious family dynamics, stronger family governance and next generation integration and education.

Elizabeth has convened, spoken at and moderated many events in the UK and internationally.

Previously, Elizabeth worked in international corporate governance and spent almost a decade working for her own family business where she now serves as a non-executive director. She is also a non-executive director of a 6th and 7th generation UK based family business.

She is a passionate philanthropist and has also enjoyed a wide range of volunteer work over the last 25 years inc. with the Red Cross, educational and health care projects in Uganda and most recently working with a charity in Mexico that supports orphans and vulnerable families.

She is a Veritage trained family business coach, holds a certificate in family business advising (FBA) from the Family Firm Institute in Boston, is an accredited facilitator from the Oasis School of Human Relations in the UK and is currently undertaking Company Directors’ training at the Institute of Directors in the UK. She holds an MA in Post-Colonial Cultures and International Relations from the London Metropolitan and a BA in English and Italian from Copenhagen Business School. Elizabeth speaks and works in English, Danish and Italian – and is getting there in Spanish.

Elizabeth divides her time between the UK, Mexico and Denmark.
